Getting Connected

Before using any program in the Connectivity Package, you must establish a connection to the Internet. If you connect through an outside Internet Service Provider (ISP), log on as you normally would.

If you are directly connected to the campus network (residence halls, libraries, offices), you configured your connection when you installed the Connectivity Package. DHCP users (residence halls and libraries) must open a web browser and go through network registration before they can access the network.

If you dial into the University modem pool, follow the steps below to connect:

Windows XP

  1. Go to Start → Connect To: → UChicago Dial-Up.
  2. Enter your CNet password in the Password field.
  3. Click Dial. Once Windows has finished negotiating the connection, you will be connected to the campus network.

Windows 2000

  1. Go to Start → Settings → Network and Dial-up Connections → UChicago Dial-Up.
  2. Enter your CNet password in the Password field.
  3. Click Dial. Once Windows has finished negotiating the connection, you will be connected to the campus network.

Mac OS X

  1. Go to Applications → Internet Connect from your hard drive.
  2. Enter your CNet password in the Password field.
  3. Click Connect. Once your modem has finished negotiating the connection, you will be connected to the campus network.

Now that you are connected, you can start using the Connectivity Package's applications!
